She had been pregnant with a child at the time, Aduke. Upon hearing of the birth of his daughter, this man didn’t bother asking about their well-being.
A year ago, was when I met her. A lady that seemed to have it all and yet wanted more. Her story made me realize it’s sometimes inexcusable to judge a book by its cover.
I will not use her real identity as requested. Aduke is not her real name but her story is real. Verbatim would not be used because a year is a long time for a quote. However, I will tell you what she told me about how she became the woman she is today.
She was born and raised by a single mother – or so she thought – who catered for her every need. Her mother tried her best to raise her regardless of the lack of support from her husband. When Aduke got older, she lost this woman to a strange ailment.
As a young teen, there was nothing much she could do but weep. Her aunt took charge of her and chose to raise her.
A couple of years later, Aduke heard the story of her mother. This woman had been married to a man from Edo state and had loved him like a wife to her husband. Out of the blues, he sent her out of her home and brought in a new wife.
Her mother had been pregnant with a child at the time, Aduke. Upon hearing of the birth of his daughter, this man didn’t bother asking about their well-being. His own mother encouraged him to take care of his new wife who had given birth to his son.
In summary, the African story of how a mother forces out her son’s wife and provides a new one is true.
Therefore, her mother had raised her as a single parent even if she was still lawfully married. She had died a strange death later on.
Aduke narrated how she had a strange dream just before her mother’s death. She claimed that her paternal grandmother had a hand in her death _ could this be true? She swore off her father and his people forever and agreed with herself to succeed in life.
I had an editorial job for a clothing line. It was one I got while working in the white-collar industry. Aduke and I hit it off immediately as we were on set together. I learned about her baby girl and even saw pictures of this lovely creature. Yes, Aduke is a single mother too.
She had admittedly gone through a wrong path while trying to survive the poverty caused by her father. However, she loves her girl so much and promises to provide a different future for her.
Her father had been trying to form a relationship with her after her mother’s death but she refuses to succumb. She intends to survive without him.
With an ebony skin, well carved bone structure, a size 6 body and a height of 5ft; 10inches; she intends to keep pursuing her modelling dream. I also hope she achieves her goal of success in life.
